Don’t get me wrong – I love toys! I just bought myself my first mp3 player, and its wonderful to be able to listen to music again… fatherhood tends to take away the times spent listening to albums in front of a stereo…
A funny thing has happened in the last few days however. Both a client and a friend have gotten themselves lost, even though they had sophisticated GPS systems in their car! You know the ones, they give you directions as you drive.
In the case of our friend, she even knows where we live, but placing her faith into her GPS, it took her somewhere else.
As for the client, it wasn’t until he got to the completely other end of the highway that he realised he was not where he should have been.
In both cases, the individuals “had a feeling” that they weren’t going in the right direction, but listened to the directions of the gizmo, because… well, that’s what its for, after all!
I did readings for both, and lo and behold! both people’s problems could be sorted if they listened (and trusted) in their own intuition, knowingness and abilities.
Interesting metaphor – for is not the GPS nothing more than an electronic brain designed to do one thing and one thing alone: navigate. Our intellectual and analytical mind often tells us to do things, even when we feel it isn’t quite the right thing to do (or say). I would argue that in all cases, our ‘gut feeling’ is what we know is right. But we can get tricked by our brain, and then wonder what went wrong and where and why…
This is the message of the 7 Swords in the Tarot – the trickster who comes in the dead of night and robs us. However, this is aspect of ourselves should never be castigated, for it is an important one. This is our ability to question and analyse and think about all the minute details. But sometimes, he gets a little out of hand, and takes over.
Its handy to remember this from time to time, and just like Luke Skywalker in Star Wars (episode 4 – the original), we need to turn off our navigation computers and just do what we feel is right – coz chances are thats the best – and quickest – way to go!
